Going above and beyond is all in a day’s work for Stephanie Edra at Hyatt Centric Mountain View.
This motivated sales manager consistently demonstrates brand values — integrity, experimentation, inclusion, respect, wellbeing, and empathy — while exceeding expectations in both effort and results.
In short, she’s kicking it, and for that she has received Hyatt’s 2024 Q1 Kick Butt Award.
Presented along with a pair of branded boxing gloves, this award recognizes Edra’s exceptional contributions to property performance as well as company culture at Hyatt Centric Mountain View. The hotel, located in California’s Bay Area, is owned and operated by OTO Development, which is part of The Johnson Group.
Edra personifies the phrase “team player.” When Hyatt Centric Mountain View was temporarily without a director of sales, for example, she proactively took the reins of the sales reporting process, making sure everyone stayed on task and that all reports were completed accurately and on time. She stepped up to mentor a new sales coordinator, providing one-on-one training on all brand processes and procedures to set this colleague up for success.
She also maintained continuity of internal recognition during weekly huddles. This is someone who thrives in celebrating colleagues’ wins, and her cheerleading elevated morale across the sales department.
As a sales manager, Edra is especially savvy at setting group rate quotes. Before presenting a rate to management, she has already researched the market and shopped the comp set, so she is almost always in line with the client’s budget. This thoroughness doesn’t go unappreciated by her colleagues — or by her clients.
Edra adapts easily to new processes and procedures; when Hyatt implemented a new rate system, she eagerly embraced it to maximum potential. When offered a reassignment from SMERF to corporate accounts — to expand her skillset with an eye toward promotion — she eagerly accepted.
In addition to the can-do attitude she brings to Hyatt Centric Mountain View, Edra is committed to the success of her peers across OTO’s portfolio, consistently referring potential bookings to sister properties.
Hyatt Centric Mountain View has scored exceptionally well in Hyatt meeting surveys received YTD: three scored 10/10 and one scored 9/10. In 2023, the hotel had seven 10/10s. Individually, Edra has scored 95 and 100 in her most recent shop calls.
What’s more, Edra embodies Hyatt’s ideals. Her gracious demeanor inspires trust. She embraces change, always eager to experiment. She celebrates being part of a diverse team, promoting awareness of and participation in events ranging from Black History Month to Pride. She fosters a respectful, positive work environment by treating every colleague with dignity.
She’s a hard worker but — when everyone’s been sitting at their desks for too long — she’ll gather up all her colleagues for a walk outside to get fresh air, sunshine, and, often, a bubble tea. A natural empath, she shares a kind word with everyone, every day.
Rather than trying to change her coworkers, Edra finds creative ways to ensure their different styles complement each other to win business — and win clients’ hearts, too.
